No because the way Desiree Sandz sets this one up is criminal. Knoxlee — Knoxy to everyone who's earned it — was found as a small child in a cargo crate. Actual cargo. Stolen off Earth, shipped like freight, discovered by strangers who had no idea what she even was. And the man who found her, who knelt down to a terrified kid's eye level so he wouldn't scare her, is the same man she's now catastrophically, inconveniently, cannot-look-directly-at-him in love with.

She's not a rescue project and she'll fight you about it
Here's what I love about Knoxy: she built a job for herself. She's a de-suiter at Aquado, which means she strips battle-armor off enormous incoming warriors with a clipboard's worth of protocol and absolutely zero patience for anyone who gets handsy. Her opening speech to every new arrival is basically hands to your sides, listen for instructions, we are professionals here. She's five foot nothing of pure procedure and she'll ice a seven-foot warrior with one look.
That's the character work that makes this book sing. She could have been written as the grateful orphan. Instead she's the woman who took the worst start imaginable and turned it into competence, routine, and a genuinely funny sense of humor about all of it. Girl has main character energy and a laminated checklist.
The trauma is real. The healing is real. But so is the fact that she is extremely good at her job and knows it.
The forbidden part
Dashvagashi is High Councilman. Top of the hierarchy. The one who gives orders to the people who give orders. He is also, structurally, the closest thing Knoxy has ever had to a guardian figure — and both of them know exactly how that looks.
So this becomes a masterclass in restraint. Every glance is deniable. Every touch is professional until suddenly it isn't. Neither of them will say the thing first, because saying it makes it real, and real means somebody has to decide what it costs. If you are a connoisseur of the forbidden slow burn, if you've been chasing that specific ache since your last five-star read, this is your fix.

Read it if…
You want a heroine with a spine, a hero with a conscience, and a romance where the biggest obstacle isn't a villain — it's two people trying very hard to do the right thing and losing that fight beautifully.
Content notes and reading order
Book 2 works reasonably well as a standalone but it's much richer after Dovanik, mostly because Knoxy and Mikel's shared history as children found in a cargo crate gets referenced across the entire series. If you're building a reading list, keep these two together.
Things to know going in: this is adults-only with explicit content. The book deals with childhood trafficking as backstory — it's not depicted, but it's discussed, and it shapes everything about who Knoxy became. There's also an age and power gap between the leads that the book treats as a genuine ethical problem rather than a spicy accessory, which is exactly how it should be handled.
The verdict
Five stars for the restraint alone. Desiree Sandz could have written the easy version of this — powerful man takes what he wants — and instead wrote a man who refuses to move until she does. It's a more difficult book and a far better one.
